SoCal Convention is in Anaheim this quarter. It will be held the weekend of Sept. 17-Sept.19. If you are interested in attending, please contact Linda Myers for an application.
We are continuing to paint at Rohr Manor on Saturday 7/31 to hopefully finish up the projects that have been started. All are welcome to attend and give us a hand!
On Saturday August 7, we will have our Trash pick-up patrol in Bonita. We are starting at 7am and meeting at the corner where Chase Bank is located.
Our guest speaker wa our very own Ann Stevens! She took us on a tour of Genealogy. Ann is very enthused about her "hobby/obsession". She informed us that if we wanted to get started, there are many resources to use, ie books, web-sites,classes etc. Her helpful hints were to first start constructing a Pedigree Chart, talk to older relatives, keep family story telling alive, label pictures and to keep asking questions. This will be a great gift for your children or for them to do for you!

Our Board meeting was last night so that took up most of today's meeting. We found out that the new lighting was completed. Wow is it bright now!!! Now there is just some minor touch up to do inside. There are also some items outside that need to still be completed. Look for a "Fix up the Manor" date that will be coming soon to finish the outside of the Manor. We are really close!
Councelor Jennifer updated us on what's happening at New Alternatives and she also introduced us to a new graduate of New Alternatives. They have a wonderful program and are also very appreciative for all that our club does to help the kids and their programs.

Fifty of our Optimists and friends all enjoyed the San Diego Padre game. It was a wonderful club fundraiser that brought in over $400 for our Foundation. A great time was had by all...we even got free Padres hats!

Guest Speaker - Diego Alvarado is a 12 year old doing amassing things for Rady Children's Hospital. As a past patient at Children's, he knows how lonely it can be there. So Diego has contacted over 60 retailers for donations for his foundation "Making Smiles". He has 2 "Making Smiles" Parties planned to raise money for Children's Hospital on Oct 4th and Feb 17th. Convention News - We had 10 plus Bonita Optimists attend the convention in Denver. Bill Meyers taught classes. Elaine Lucca was there with 12 JOOI kids from both Bonita and Eastlake High Schools. Dr. Angie Hawkins received 2 awards for Club Building and PGI. All had a great time and learned a lot about Optimist International and ideas to share with our own Bonita club.
JOOI Club - Toni from the JOOI Club attended the the convention with Elaine Lucca and spoke about the workshops she and fellow members attended. She also shared her goal to start a Optimist Re-cycling program in the near future. She is such a driven and optimistic young person!
District Convention - California South District Optimist International 44th Annual Convention will be held in Anaheim, Ca. Dates are Sept 17-19th. See Linda Myers for an application.

Road Clean-up will be on Saturday August 7th at 7am. It will be cleaning down Bonita Road. Please meet our group at Chase Bank on the corner of Otay Lakes Rd. and Bonita Rd.
Our own Jimmy Lydon enlightened us on him being a member of the Magic Circle. He told us of his days performing magic for GIs at bases and hospitals around the USA and his membership in the Magic Castle in Hollywood. It was a fun and entertaining presentation as always.
